Get the underlying business facts right

Confirm the real public business name, phone, website, categories, hours and customer-facing address policy with the owner. Do not add service keywords to a business name unless they are part of the actual name. Resolve old phone numbers and duplicate profiles before creating more content.

A contractor who travels to customers may qualify as a service-area business under Google’s guidance. Whether a business should show an address depends on how it operates and whether customers are received there. Do not create a virtual or borrowed location to target a market.

  • Use the real name customers recognize.
  • Verify phone, hours and website destination.
  • Represent actual storefront or service-area operations according to platform rules.

Make the website match the work and area

A strong service page describes the job, who the service is for, what the customer can prepare, and what happens when they request help. Add coverage details that reflect actual dispatch. An HVAC page might distinguish repair, maintenance and replacement inquiries; a roofing page may explain the steps from inspection request to estimate review.

Only create a city-specific page when it answers something substantively different for that market. Useful differences could include confirmed service coverage, a genuine operating constraint or relevant local process. Replacing a city name in the same text creates a thin page and misleads customers when coverage is not real.

  • Give each important service one clear canonical page.
  • Link trade pages to relevant process and pricing information.
  • Avoid doorway pages for every suburb.

Ask for genuine reviews in a consistent way

A simple post-job request can make it easier for a customer to share an honest experience. The business should invite feedback without filtering only for happy customers or offering an incentive that conflicts with platform policy. Respond calmly and avoid revealing private job details in a public reply.

Review requests are an operational process, not a substitute for dependable work. Track whether requests are sent and whether the business responds; never publish fabricated reviews or imply a review count that has not been verified.

  • Choose a consistent point in the completed-job process.
  • Keep the request neutral and make feedback voluntary.
  • Use approved customer text only with the right permission.

Help crawlers and people navigate

Make important pages reachable from normal links in the site navigation, service pages or resource articles. Use one descriptive URL and one self-referencing canonical for each article. A sitemap helps search systems discover URLs but does not guarantee indexing or improve ranking by itself.

Write a concise page title and description that accurately match the page. Use one clear H1 and meaningful subheadings. Structured data should describe visible facts accurately; do not add fake review scores, locations or business facts to try to qualify for a search feature.

  • Link the article from a relevant page and the blog hub.
  • Check status, canonical and robots directives after deployment.
  • Use structured data only for information shown on the page.

Measure inquiries instead of chasing rank screenshots

Search Console can show which queries and pages received impressions and clicks for the verified property. Analytics can help describe visits and selected actions when consent and implementation allow. The CRM or intake system provides another view of qualified inquiries. These sources have different definitions and should not be blended into one unlabelled count.

Review a few questions each month: which relevant pages appear, which pages earn clicks, which queries attract poor-fit homeowners, and whether visitors become qualified inquiries? Use those observations to improve the page or the business response, not to promise a rank position.

  • Separate impressions, clicks, organic visits and inquiries.
  • Compare branded and nonbranded queries.
  • Annotate substantive edits so later changes can be interpreted.
